Hi folks. Straight to the point:
I’ve got a model, centred on the map, completely symmetric mesh (zremesh + mirror and weld so on so forth). Sculpting with symmetry right there just works perfect. Let’s move on.
I want this model to be posed and symmetrically sculpt on It using Posable Symmetry feature. I follow the Zbrush Pixologic tutorial about posable symmetry that we all know. Also checked the not many other tutorials out there. It is a no brainer process, just a couple of clics.
‘‘Full posable symmetry is found’’ All good, all perfect.
In my case I simply want to transpose the whole piece out from the map center, so I do.
I also apply subdivisions and make sure Posable Sym is active on them.
Once all is set up and you start sculpting you can’t really sculpt properly and let me show you through some screen shots.
1. FINAL POSE WITH ALL THE SET UP EXPLAINED ABOVE. We are on the 3 subdiv level
2. A SINGLE TRIM DYNAMIC CONTINUED STROKE. Issues straight away
3. A SINGLE CLAY TUBES STROKE. Keen eyes will spot issues. Differences between sides.
4. A SECOND CLAY TUBES STROKE, FOLLOWING SAME PATH. Every time persist, discordances kind of pile up and issues become more visible.
5. SEVERAL STROKES (not more than 10). You end up with an absolute broken mesh.
Before any replies, I encourage you all to try as I did. It is a very very simple process, but it seems to not behave as it is supposed.
You can take any default dummy. Just keep sculpting and modelling and find for yourselves whether this is happening to you or not. Do not go just with a couple of strokes.
In the Zbrush official tutorial they never go actually sculpting after the explanation but only a couple of strokes with the standard brush.
I’ve only seen a guy aparently doing fine, sculpting with no noticeable issues, but it is from 2011. We could argue he is not straight away sculpting the way I am, and I am in fact the one understanding it wrong. If so, and the feature has always been the way it is, I must say It does not do what it promises. Why would you even use posable sym if not for plain sculpting? Mi model has not even a pose. Is has been entirely moved and rotated a bit.
But I don’t really want to give up and I’d like to see the official answer. Also I don’t really think people have had this problem, detailed as I did and posted it. If so I never found it.
Thanks so much. I hope I explained it properly and this helps someone else.
