Hi Cam! Welcome to ZBrush Central.
It looks like a mask. Try going to “Tool > Masking” and click “Clear” to see if that removes it. It might have already been there but you might have accidentally hit Ctrl+H (ViewMask) and it appeared. If it’s something that happened on it’s own, it’s nothing that I have ever seen happen before. If nobody else here knows what it might be, I would suggest that you contact Pixologic Support. Click “Start a conversation” in the upper right side of that page.
Thanks for the response zber2 - no masks, but I was trying to use Spotlight a couple of hours before this, it’s probably something left over from that. I gave up on Spotlight when I realised it has no undo, couldn’t clone the texture and deformed the mesh despite zadd being off.
I’ll have to jump back to mudbox to texture this - painting in zBrush is about as much fun as sculpting in mudbox
more weirdness - brush ‘missing’ half the brush stroke. A rather artistic looking edge on this one but nevertheless unintended and unwanted.
If I apply full pressure on the tablet the stroke will paint over that, but I never apply full pressure so this pops up a lot.
Which version of ZBrush are you using?
latest on a sub - 2021.1.2
Is it a falloff setting on the brush perhaps - not to apply at angles greater than x, perhaps?
different model, same issue
