Is there a way to save the polyframe as a texture? I know that I can use the ‘polypaint from polygroup’ but I want the grid information too, also I like the color more in the polygroup than when it transfers to the polypaint.
There is no one-button method but if you really want to do it there is a way (your model must have UVs assigned) :
- Choose a bright white material for your model such as SkinShade4. Don’t use Flat Color, it won’t work. Set the Color to white in the selector.
- With the Tool>UV Map>UV Map Size slider set to the size you want create a new texture by pressing Tool>Texture Map>New Txtr.
- Turn off the Tool>Texture Map>Texture On switch so the map isn’t showing on the model.
- Turn on Polyframe (key Shift + F).
- Press Tool>UV Map>Morph UV. The model will morph flat according to the UVs.
- Rotate the model so that it is positioned facing forward and use the ‘F’ key to frame it neatly in the viewport.
- Press the Projection Master button (key G). Make sure just Colors is selected in the dialog and press ‘Drop’.
- Make sure SkinShade4 material is still selected and press the ‘GrabDoc’ button in the Texture palette.
- Press the ‘CropAndFill’ button in the Texture palette.
- In the Tool palette, select your model and then turn on the texture map by pressing Tool>Texture Map>Texture On. Don’t draw on the canvas or anything.
- Press the Project Master button (key G) and Pick Up.
- Press Tool>UV Map>Morph UV. The model will morph back to its correct shape.
- Turn off polyframe (key Shift + F).
A better result can be obtained if before you start you set the document size to the dimensions of your texture.
HTH,
Thanks so much Marcus. I haven’t had a moment to try it but I’ll get back to you as soon as I do!
