Poly visible urgent! thank you!

hi!!! I have the following problem: I 've sculpted a head, and need to cut it in the middle, and mirror the “half” head… Unfortunely, I notice, after cutting it (mask, then hide, then delete hidden) that in the render the tiny polys are visible, quads by quads, …the surface isn’t rendered as a “flowing” surface of poly… Now, it desappears when drastically subdiving the mesh, but is it a way to subdue these “poly effect” without going to 9 millions of polys??? Oh, of course i have a map, and color and so on, so I don’t want to modify tha mapping!!! thank you for helping, as I’m in panic with an assignment!!!
