poly edit plugin for 3dmax, amazing video!

is it too late to request all this be added to 2.5?

The preview videos for zbrush 2.5 impressed me, but I have to say this looks like zbrush 2.5 topology edits on steroids.

This is in Silo too, called the Topology Brush. I was actually much more impressed with the ZBrush method…it does essentially the same thing, but seems to be designed to be much more practical. For instance, it appears to generate a cleaner mesh…and there are tools such as radial symmetry, etc, that allow it to create a second skin around a character much more quickly. With ZBrush, you don’t have to draw the lines for each polygon…it interpolates them. That’s priceless.

edit: But yeah, I must admit…a lot of the tools in that video are pretty impressive!

hmmm

I am not that impressed yet. It looks cool and adds functionality that silo doesn’t have with its topo brush but …we aren’t seeing all in that z2.5 demo me thinks

I think it’s gonna be way cooler and way more innovative than what we are seeing so far. And there was a hint about some other unspoken features coming as well so I for one am gonna wait to judge here. Pixologic hasn’t let me down yet…but then again my living doesn’t depend on it so MHO ain’t worth squat there.

but no one can promise you a rose garden with all possible varieties and hybrids etc can they?

PolyBoost2 is pretty amazing and shows what might be possible with ZBrush plugins by 3rd party developers if an SDK were made available for ZBrush2.5.

This plugin for 3dMax was created by one guy in his basement and it is selling briskly priced at about $100.00.

Aminuts, I have to admit I WAS pretty impressed with the variety of topology tools and their apparent ease of use. I was also impressed with the viewport canvas which seems to match Projection Master pretty well (and it swaps out to outside paint programs).

I also especially liked the amazing little UVW Tweaker. Now THAT would be a very welcome addition to ZBrush 2.5 (and probably not that difficult to implement.)

The complete list of features is frankly breathtaking.

I’d like to see the PolyBoost plugin or something like it for XSI. (maybe 5.1?)

Sven

have to admit I was pretty tired when I watched just that one video, Sven. Still not super impressed with the topo part and will wait to judge that with zb.

however I did check out the rest of the videos and and feature list and yeah the package is pretty impressive. I wonder how long it will take max folks to wake up and buy it from this guy. a bargain for any one at 100 bucks. Silo folks could definitely take some lessons from this guy as well…they have quite a few of same features but aren’t nearly as well executed or have as many options. almost makes me wish I could afford max and this cool plugin.

and yeah the sdk for zb would be nice eh!

The topology brush in both silo and this plugin look great for demo vids, but I’ve found its a bit too loose and unpredictable. Drawing out a new mesh should be somewhat freeform, but not that free!

The other topology tools really caught my eye though. Drawing out strips seems perfect, as does extending the surface by dragging on any vertex or edge. Much closer to the way I think; define major planes then join them together. The optimiser tool is pretty impressive too.

My main concern with the 2.5 preview video is the resultant mesh doesn’t look like a regular optimised mesh. It looks, for want of a better word, ‘zbrushy’. I know its early days, and I expect the layout will rely heavily on the user, but its hard not to compare. The max video looks like it generates useable topology in a controlled way, the zbrush 2.5 videos look like too much magic is going on… I worry that we’ll end up taking meshes into 3rd party tools for final vertex tweaks, which is a shame.

Anyways, this is all counting unhatched poultry. We’ll find out in a few months won’t we?

I have the PolyBoost from the beginning and I agree with Sven, is really a powerfull tool and function very well.
The TopoBrush is impressive, just draw slowly and you get a complete mesh over your guide model.
The 2.0 is an excelent upgrade

hi andreseloy

could ya post a screen shot? am curious how the new mesh looks and is it pretty easy to replace existing with the new?

About that drawing out stripes i think that was just a clone tool… as you can see the grey part where he brushes where no texture is yet

The topo tool looks nice, but brush looks horrible compared to z-brush especially that interface i doubt it woul work as good as z with a wacom

Of course friend aminuts:
