pls help, how to send vertices to zero position on an axis?

Posted this question 4 days ago with no response.
Surely someone would have broken a sub d model’s symmetry by now.

How do I send selected vertices back to zero along an axis to restore symmetry?

Mirror and weld doesn’t work as it generates internal pollygons even if it is .0001 unit from zero.

Thank you for any help.

My current work around is to move all the vertices a fair way from zero and do a mirror and weld and then delete the edge loop that was misaligned.

Im sure there must be a better way.

Best method is to not destroy or move stuff so it needs to be ‘fixed’.
You could mask (or hide) all but what you wish to move and try a Clip brush to push them back.

Sounds like a good idea to use the clip brush. I will try it later.
Thank you for your time.

Here’s a little plugin that will do what you want.

To install:

  1. Unzip the file to your Desktop.
  2. Open any folder created by the unzipping and find the Align_Verts_01.ZSC file and AlignVertsData folder.
  3. Copy the Align_Verts_01.ZSC file and AlignVertsData folder to the ZBrush 4R7\ZStartup\ZPlugs folder for Windows or ZBrushOSX 4R7/ZStartup/ZPlugs for Mac. This installs the plugin for 32 bit ZBrush.
  4. Also copy the Align_Verts_01.ZSC file and AlignVertsData folder folder to the ZBrush 4R7\ZStartup\ZPlugs64 folder for Windows or ZBrushOSX 4R7/ZStartup/ZPlugs64 for Mac. This installs the plugin for 64bit ZBrush.
  5. Restart ZBrush and you will find a new Align Verts sub-palette in the Zplugin palette.

Set the maximum distance in the slider and select which axis you want to work with, then press the button.

If you downloaded the first version then you’ll see the model gets turned upside down - I’ve updated to correct this.

Marcus, thank you very much for writing such a useful plugin.

You’re welcome!
