Hi, I am finding ZRemesher is lowering the polycount way too much even in Double mode. ZRemesher is not only used for retopology, it is also used as a remedy to functions ZBrush is not able to do in a simple manner like connecting an insert mesh to a subtool (as is explained here). In order to preserve details of the insert mesh, we’d need to use ZRemesher in a very conservative way which isn’t apparently possible today (4R7 patch 3).
A polysphere w 8k points zremeshed with double gives me 15k. That’s pretty close.
Turning off adaptive, and setting adaptive slider to 0, gives me double polycount when double is clicked.
Turning off double and entering the “Target polycount” seems to work fine as well, e.g.,
A 10K mesh, entered 36K for target, zremesher gives me 33K.
Why not enter in your desired target polycount?
well, I checked:
- 3.8MP mesh
- ZRemesher with: poly count Same, Adapt off, Adaptive size 0
-> result is 283 KP mesh
Conclusion: that doesn’t work for high poly count meshes.
