playlore samurai model

Hello. this is my first post to this community…and…this is pretty much my first ‘finished’ model in zbrush (it’s really still WIP). I’m hoping for some feedback…constructive criticism is welcome. Thanks everyone.

the model is based on concept art from Playlore [![playlore_samurai_2.jpg|1000x872](upload://rGLodNe3Waqz7D0BuPG7ftAEYnQ.jpeg)](http://javascript%3Cb%3E%3C/b%3E:zb_insimg%28%27%27,%27playlore_samurai_3.jpg%27,1,0%29)

my first post didnt seem to upload the images …so…

Really good job all around man! Nice subtle pose, clothing is interesting as well. The legs look just a little too spaced apart hips are a little wide I guess, with those baggy pants they would most likely be pressed together more. Also the arm holding the sword appears flimsy in the back and slightly short. Add just a bit volume in the triceps area and that should be it. Excellent work, these comments are maybe too picky but I really like what I’m seeing! Hope to see more! :+1: :+1:

Pretty neat design but I feel like it’s a template for something you can push further. Also, the clothes don’t feel right. It looks like you took the standard brush and just painted the way you feel clothes should act, not how they actually do. Grab yourself some photo ref and try using the other tools.

Elastic works nicely because you can build up forms and curves and it works well with gravity functions. Also don’t forget the Ctrl+1 hotkey to redo previous actions. You cant make a small stroke and build it up exactly.

Benjw703 - thanks for the comments…yeah…a friend also noticed the arm…and i already fixed it, the triceps anyway…good eye. And…I know what you mean by the ‘leg spacing’…i think its the way i have the hakama (th baggy pants) falling on the insides: too much room, giving that wide apart feeling. I’ll definitely work on that.

preatus - i appreciate your comments too. hmm…i ‘was’ using a variant of the clay tubes brush, pinch, and flatten. But i know what you mean. I was actually working from concept art…and trying to stay close to how the artist drew the clothes. I’m definitely going to explore the elastic brush…and yes…it seems…its photo reference time.

thanks both.
more coming soon…

working on the face of the model…i thought the original was too ‘generic’ and so i added a little more ‘character’, working it a little closer to the concept design as well. attached is the new version (in red) and then a before and after (the 2 in gray…the new one is the one with eybrows). What do you think?
