Planar mapping

How would I import a texture and planar map and resize it to a sphere in Zbrush? I have some very detailed eyeball maps but I they keep getting distorted. Thanks for your help.

i don’t think it matters what size your eyeball maps are but the larger probley the more clear it will look the eye map texture will self adjust to the sphere threw texture / import.
this was made in zbrush :small_orange_diamond:
there is no need to use a uv planner on it just import the texture and slap it on a sphere.

OK if your texture looks like this :small_orange_diamond:
ok take a 3D Sphere and export as a .OBJ now use the polymesh star tool and import the .OBJ now go to Modifyers/texture/UVP THEN add eye Texture/import and that will straighten out your eye map if not it wont look right and it will look like this
:small_orange_diamond:
you can get a eye maker tool here :small_orange_diamond: http://www27.brinkster.com/ezbrush/mainTools.html and it will make eye maps like the First Pic that way you don’t have to mess around importing .OBJ all you do is slap it on a sphere.
the eye map texture was From Kathy

Robot Eye

Thanks for the reply Z but I’m already pretty familiar with making eyes the Zbrush way as shown by Pixolator. I’m never quite happy with the result. What I’m after is a really detailed lizard look eye similar to the ones in the RUPERT picture posted by Mentat7. I believe he used a poser model eye map.

that cat eyes.

Dont run the zscript because it has MASKING which doesn’t work correctly with version 1.5.
get the shape of the inner eye and stencil it add your texture first.
his eye looks like he left a slight brown in it off the texture he probley set his (intensity ) low and allmost wiped it off the eye but left a tad on there.
if you need a zscript i could probley whip one up

robot eye 2 lol

This might not be exactly what you want, but it does work. If you make an eye in z with the z symetery it will make a nice map… one you can work with. Then take your poser map and paste the eye over the Z one. Like this.

Edit: I see DLee beat me to it while I was typing.

  1. In ZBrush, use Tool>Modifiers>Deformation>Rotate X,90.
  2. Set your texture size to match what the imported texture will be.
  3. Click Texture>New
  4. Using radial symmetry and black, draw a small circle on the sphere to outline where you want the iris.
  5. Save the texture and take it into Photoshop
  6. Bring the texture that you want to use into Photoshop and make it a new layer with about 50% transparency so that you can see the outline below.
  7. Resize the texture so that the iris fills the outlined area. (It will probably be stretched vertically.)
  8. Get rid of the transparency, flatten the layers, and save it.
  9. Back in ZBrush, wrap it onto a sphere that has been rotated 90 degrees on the X axis. It should look fine!

if you had zbrush runing close it and start NEW or a good chance it will mess up.
:small_orange_diamond:cateye.txt once done save the texture map in the texture pallete.
it will be less of hassle as in rotateing or clicking a Million buttons.
just zsphere it add texture once its saved
Daveyboy trying to make that Cat eye Look like ment7 poser map

Thanks for that first tip EZ, that is a great easy way to make custom eyes :+1:  :+1:

I went off and made a few eye textures in ZBrush, and came back to see that DLee and Aurick had posted some other useful methods

ummmm  1 More LoL made from the Robot eye

Hey EZ-I like that last image made from the robot eye-very unique very embossed.
