Pixologic streamers are describing the UI corruption bug. Will it ever be addressed?

I love ZBrush’s incredibly flexible UI customization but the issue of UIs randomly corrupting themselves and failing to respond to state changes (polymesh related buttons no longer become visible/active when a polymesh is in edit mode) has been around since at least 2012. Sometimes you can “Restore Custom UI” but if that’s toast you need to load a backup cfg. It’s kinda terrifying too because you have no sign it’s happening and you’re sure you wouldn’t have hit save config with half your buttons missing.

Shane Olsen and Shayleen Hubert have both mentioned on stream they need to constantly save backups of custom UIs so they don’t have to rebuild them from scratch. ShaneO worked on Disney Infinity, teaches ZBrush and provides his custom interface to the community, so if he can’t get it sorted I’m really starting to worry. If I can find a concrete way to avoid the problem I want to write a plugin/bunch of macros to manage low poly, sculpt and paint workspaces, but for now it’s too sketchy. I haven’t seen an official response in any of the threads posted :frowning:

Can we please get some sort of word on when it’ll be fixed or why it’s impossible?

Thanks guys!

It’s advised to rebuild custom UIs from scratch for ZBrush 4R8, rather than using a previous version from 4R7 or earlier. This is because of technical restraints due to the localisation changes.

It’s also a good idea to save a custom interface with a separate name through the “Save Ui” button as well as using “Store”. Then, if the configuration does get corrupted for some reason, you’ll have a back up.

For more specific problems, it would be great if you contacted support. Bugs can only be found and solved if they can be reproduced by the developers, so a custom ui which consistently shows a problem would be a great help!

Thanks,
