Pixologic should buy Nevercenter's Silo

I think Silo is a great, light polymodelling tool; sure it has heaps of bugs but I think Pixologic’s team could really develop it well as another product that sits beside Sculptris and ZBrush.

Please Pixologic, consider buying Silo, developing and refining it into a truly amazing artist tool.

I agree. Silo is one of the best stand alone box modelers out there and could benefit from a little pixo love to update it and work hand in hand with Zbrush. Go Z ftw! With the added comprehensiveness to the Zbrush work flow, it would be a sweet set up with identical key setups. Great idea Steve  :+1: Chances are it isn’t going to happen but still it would be something for Pixo to look at.

Before anyone can buy it, Nevercenter has to be willing to sell and last I checked, they weren’t. Still, it would be nice to hear that someone picked up development of the program…just wish Nevercenter would sell the code.

Everyone has a their price…

Not pixologic:-) they could have been acquired by autodesk many years ago

Or they could have had a security breach and a new unnanounced illegal fork in on the way ?
Just hypothesis ofc !

So is development on Silo totally dead?

So far as I know Spin, totally dead and thats a damn shame. Tying Silo to Z would be a dream and is a dream as Pixo is not likely to make an offer for it. Silo as noted has a lot of bugs that need to be squashed but I still use it heavily because of one reason. It is a very intuitive program and it’s easy for me to fly in it :+1:

Agreed. Silo and Zbrush would be a good combo. Bummed that there is no further development for Silo.

I would expect Autodesk to be a more obvious buyer for Silo?

I would love for Pixo to partner with Silo just to create a combined product that has a more conventional 3D interface and navigation system. I love the tools and I’ve finally gotten used to ZBrush, but it’s still frustrating to have confused fingers moving back and forth between multiple apps sometimes.

hey guys, i’m new to zBrush // digital sculpting. had worked in modeling/asset production on games & illustration some years ago, and SILO was a tool used by a friend of mine who was great artist &
animator…
So----HERE’s the big question: if Autodesk won’t bid for SILO–
and support / development is dead, what similarly intuitive modeler do u prefer…?

i’ve used these [old ver of 3dsMax, some C4d] and going to start using modo soon; so i’m wondering about best modeler that works well with zBrush as well as having accuracy of model data for experimenting in 3d-printing.

thanx for any ideas / feedback

The best is Maya. By far. No other apps are as efficient, although some might argue that 3dsmax can work fine as well with zbrush.

Do not believe that for one second. Yes, Maya is a great modeling app and a lot of studios use it but it may not suit you as a modeler. That is a personal preference. Asking what modeler is best is like asking someone what their favorite shoe or food is and going out and buying it for yourself. It may fit them - it may be something they love - but you may find you hate it. So, try out demos and then decide. Anything else is people blowing smoke up your butt.

Maya is really good at a lot of things out of the box, poly modeling is not one of them. Don’t get me wrong it’s not an issue of whether all of the pieces are there or not, they are, but the level of customization that’s necessary is ridiculous to get it to where you can have a fast, intuitive poly modeling workflow and if you have to switch machines it can be a nauseating experience.

While there’s no development of new features for Silo it is developed to run on up to date OS’ as they are updated and for most poly modeling it’s pretty feature complete to use as a complimentary tool within a workflow, so I wouldn’t drop it if you’re use to the UI or getting used to the UI I suspect that Silo will maintain the code for a long time to come. I just wish there was a ZappLink utility for it.
