Pixels

Im trying to make models like the one they had in the movie pixels with adam sandler. Right now the only way i can think of doing it is by duplicating cubes and arranging them which is extremely time consuming, does anyone have any easier ways in mind?

Tool > Unified Skin and Set the “smooth” to zero is probably the easiest one button press way. May not get you exactly what you are looking for but any other method will take more time.

There is also a nanomesh method, but again probably not exactly what you are looking for.

I demonstrated this process (screenshots) to some laser-cuttingenthusiasts a while ago:

I’d suppose if the result were to stay in the visual effects realm, it might be helpful to crease all the edges before any downstream sub-dividing takes place to avoid things getting smoothed out.
