pixelated alpha

alpha issue.jpg

So I am working on a simple name plaque…and this is how my alpha is turning out. I am sitting at 24K pixels…and have included the division level 5 and such in the screenshot.

My alpha is 1024 x 1024 px and sitting at about 300 DPI and was exposed as a .jpg

I am taking a course and see their text coming out crisp …I would not think I have to increase past 24K to get this to work…so obviously it is me that is doing something jacked up…any thoughts?:stuck_out_tongue:

It could be a density issue. 24k really isn’t that much for a crisp result, especially if it turns out that most of those 24k points are on other areas of the mesh. If you subdivide a cube 5 times to 24578 points, then one side of the cube will only have 4225 points, so the area you’re putting the letters on will have even less.

The density applies to the alpha image as well. It may be a 1024x1024 image, but it doesn’t seem like the letters are putting a lot of that texture space to use in the alpha preview. Give the letters more pixels and the model more points, and the result should be better.

Lastly check that it’s not dynamic subdivision, as that will likely use low-resolution results for brushes since it’s not actually creating and modifying the geometry in the same way as standard subdivision.

Awesome …thanks so much I will be working with it this PM and will circle back …thanks again
