Pinch (and TrimDynamic) Tool feels broken sometime. Refuses pinch some polys.

Now and then I run into situations where the pinch tool (and also trim dynamic in the same spots) has a huge issue that doesn’t make any sense to me and makes it hard to sculpt.

I’ve tried restarting Zbrush.
I’ve tried drag rec to get rid of masking
i’ve tried unhiding everything.

Here is a video showing it. You can see, at multiple divs, that some of the polys will not react at all to the pinch tool no matter how hard I try.

I basically have to do something like pinch the entire region very very large to even get those polys to react.

Been playing around. I got it to work by cropping (ctrl+shift+dragrec) the area. Then i can drag a nice pinch or whatever tool along the edge and have it work how you would expect.

At least I can do that. I don’t always crop much these days because of how powerful Zbrush has been for a lot of stuff. I just don’t feel the need to. I should start cropping a bit more.

It really looks like those polys are masked. Ive never had this issue with the pinch brush. Do those polys react to other brushes besides the pinch brush? Do you have anything like backface masking active for the brush, which can sometimes cause confusing behavior in small detail areas?

They aren’t masked. I’ve had this issue before. I tried getting rid of masking and deleting lower and all that.

Yes they react to other tools I.E. STD, move, smooth, and I think Inflate and all that.

Sorry i was having issues with the videos. I had one where I show that it reacts to smooth and move and all that.

I just cropped the spot and it started working fine. I’ll have to remember that for the future because I’ve run into it before. Pinch and Trim both won’t work etc…
