EDIT: Pilou, just tried it with one of my forms, and: no use! Those fractals are way to detailed - you can’t keep ZBrush from turning those fragile forms into one solid clump - ugly!! Sorry!!

Pilou, I had seen it and now I have it. Will give it a try (allthough all my fractals did not make it “big” in ZBrush: the best version resembled something like a selfpropelling Ommelett :)!).
I’ll be back with the results of converting your red thing.

Thank you Andrè (good to hear!!). The software I used (in case you’ve missed it) is called “Apophysis”, it is FREE, and you can get it at
http://www.apophysis.org/
There are additional formulars available to widen the possibilities of fractals.
But: be careful >> it is addictive, I spent nearly the entire weekend going from one fractal to fractal!! You should try it, I am sure you will like it!!

And Deviant: sure, it’s great - makes me wonder why allmost nobody works on them fractals! There are so many forms emerging in just one single fractal, with just a bit postwork you can make them “visible” for everybody. but most of the artists there don’t bother about that.
True, there are some fractals that even I don’t touch - simply to beautiful to mess around with!!

Andrè, you are welcome, anytime!
For the handbook: it will do no harm reading it , but to use Apophysis you just sit down, start the proggie, open the editor (so you can shift those triangles around) and press F9 for random generation. If you are not satisfied, just alter one or all of them triangles, or: F9 again for the next random experience!
Don’t forget to export your fractals that you like most: it happened several times, that I hit F9, not thinking about the fact that afterwards the old fractal vanishes!!
It is really GREAT fun (and relaxing, too!!)!!
EDIT: forgot >> tried to use more then just a bit of postprocessing and landed on a small spot, somewhere in the void:
it is only a test for the use of those fractals, no postprocessing on this one.
Beautiful images, simply breathtaking.
It will be interesting to see if the new version of zbrush can produce thing of this nature.

NO because Apophysis background image is a result of a calculating of an mathematical equation “point by point” !
But of course you can try to simulate the same aspect by some brushes but you can’t have the same precisely result
Or maybe by a script but this one will be very slowly !

Thanx to all of you, but: it really is Apophysis that deserves credit. Without it – nope!
And: Pilou I am glad that version 2 will not be able to do this. Software like Apophysis - free for everybody and bugfree - is not encountered every day. ZBrush has that many benefits, it can’t simply do it all. For good!!

Alpha Make3D (Double Enable)
Redraw with texture transparent Enable
Drawing some 3Dobjects resultant
Play with the Adjusment
Et Voila
So apply an altitude to an image 2D is not so bad
An another try with the same Red Picture is visible here
Re use any image with the Alpha make 3D is infinite

I don’t know how to say it - I like this sort of pics, too. But just look at the fragile appearence of those fractals!
What I mean: there is a proggie that does it, and it does it in a way that I could not wish for more - so I have almost no motivation to see if another of my softwares can do the same.
Nobody is writing letters in Painter, nobody will do a diagram in Vue - I can use those fractals - even those that I have changed - as a background in any program, even in ZBrush, what more could I ask for?
I tried to make those fractals 3D just out of curiosity, and I was not happy with the results. Your picture, well I believe you can take any source, bring it to ZBrush and achieve similar results. The magic of the original will be gone, replaced by something unique from ZBrush. That’s quite allright but for Apophysis - there’s nothing but the original, don’t you think?
