Photoshop comp...Alien WIP

So I’ve been playing with the rendering features in ZBrush and they’re great. I’ve been having fun making layer comps in photoshop, playing with this filter and that, but it’s still not what it could be. There have been so many amazing renders that I can see I still have a long way to go. I just bought a couple of books to start learning about Maya and Mental Ray, but Damn! it’s a lot of info to sift through.

With that said, is there any short cuts anyone can recomend? Ways to go from zbrush into Maya and out through Mental Ray in a limited number of steps? I've seen threads in the past that have detailed the pipeline, but I was noobishly hoping for something a bit more simple. Can anyone help me out? Oh, here is the Alien/Human hybrid I'm working on. All rendering was done in zbrush with post in photoshop. I know it's noobish, but I'm starting to get the hang of it...enjoy! P.S. how do you get your photos to show up in the recent image area. It seems that if your pic doesn’t show there that nobody views your stuff.

as far as i know there is no way out of the hard work. and in the end it will giev you a better result if you try. as for the alien, i think hes pretty cool. did you use a basemesh?

Thanks…and yes, I totaly cheated. I exported a generic male model from poser (see thumbnail) and worked from that. I do try to start with zspheres for most things but in this case it was jsut alot faster.
