Photo Reference for Self Portrait?

Tutorial request

There are some good tutorials fror Lightbox and ImagePlane on getting an image to match the mesh, but what is the current method in ZB4 to match geometry to a photo?

I would say, use spotlight, and use it’s nudge tool to distort your reference image to the geometry.

eh? I’m trying to do the OPPISITE of that.

you could use spotlight to position the ref image, turn on Zadd and turn off rgb and work on the mesh like normal (with the spotlight overlaid). Just turn the spotlight opacity down enough that you can see what you’re doing.

Ahh! I’ll give that a try, thank you.

actually now that I think of it, that might produce strange results, as it will be using the spotlight image as a “stencil” so to speak…

I’d actually just look into imageplane with transparency on. Sorry for the misdirect :stuck_out_tongue:

Your spotlight idea works, if you use MOVE Brush, or it will act like a stencil/
zoom in or out is also an issue.

I’m using a practice head with UV, but I’m also trying Poly paint.

What are a few ways to Copy Polypaint in X?
For a symetrical texture.

if you have X symmetry on when you do the painting it should apply it to both sides from the start

Yes x sym on is good,
but is thereanother way to copy or clone one side to the other if you don’t do that?

1)you could try resymming the mesh, I’m not sure if that transfers polypaint I’ve never tried it…

2)you could unwrap the mesh, take the texture in photoshop, then copy and flip it manually

3)What I would do, is use the Zproject brush. Basically drop your tool to the canvas, then draw a new one and enter edit mode. Turn on symmetry then Zproject the RBG from the one side of the dropped tool onto the same side of the active tool. Basically Zproject will repaint your model, based on the one you dropped letting you turn symmetry on.

Here’s a tutorial on Zproject, only difference is you wouldn’t use a texture, you would use a dropped copy of your model

Thanks! I forgot the name, but that was was I was trying to find (Zproject)
I don’t think it works in ZB4 though.

It works but it only copies what is directly under it.
