perspective vs orthographic view [Answered]

Hi,

I’ve a quick question looking for an explanation why there is a distinction between perspective and orthographic view in zbrush. I’m curious about the why and when one would use either perspective or orthographic view when modeling? Are there specific types of objects that are more suitable for orthographic/perspective modeling?

It depends on how you prefer to model. If you use perspective then a model will look as it would in the real world but the effect is a form of distortion - parts further away will be smaller - so perspective mode is not so good for accurate measurements. Orthographic mode doesn’t have distortion so it is ideal for modeling against reference images.

If you consider how you would model something like a house then perhaps the differences will be more obvious.

I have noticed the distortion you’ve mentioned. I’ve modeled a human head in orthographic mode by accident and the perspective view was quite surprising. The sizes and angles seemed distorted and instead of natural the head feels a little disfigured. I guess I should have done it in perspective mode?

Yes, I think most people prefer to model in perspective mode. But it depends on your working methods and what you want to achieve.
