Perspective and Orthographic views

Still very new to ZBrush and am a little curious to find out if there are any advantages / disadvantages between working in perspective mode vs orthographic mode? When would working in one or the other be best?

Working in ortho mode for moving parts and tools around, or positioning things relative to one another on the canvas is best. Drawing out your transpose lines in ortho mode while holding shift key and dragging to move helps keeps things constrained to the axis of movement you want.

Perspective helps while sculpting and composing renders, I keep Perspective mode on almost always, except as stated before, when moving around stuff in the scene.

Also with the new Shadowbox you want Ortho mode active, as well as when you’re doing zsphere retopology, as Perspective can mess up your work in both modes.

I might add to Extra Dimensional’s excellent explanation, that for modeling your shape you should always have perspective on, because ortho gives you a misleading appearance of your forms. orthographic is actually a 2 dimensional presentation of a 3d object and has no depth.
for example, if you look at a character fronting you, you will see a bit more of his sides in orthographic view due to it’s flattened appearance, than you would see in perspective. hence your character will always appear a little “fatter” than it actually is.

Thanks guys, that was a perfect explanation!
