Pen to go with Wacom tablet?

I made an awesome find, and purchased a 4x6 Intuos3 for only 125.00.

However, the seller wasn’t able to find his pen.

I’m not stupid enough to just grab a pencil and give it a go, but I also don’t have a ton of money.

There are alot of options for different pens to purchase, but I am curious as to the cost-benefit of the different pens.

I think I saw something called a 5d pen… ??

So if y’all could relate your knowledge, your experience, and your views on what pen is “necessary” versus what pens have bells and whistles I don’t need.

BTW, I am a ZB3 noob, not much of an artist, but I will be hiring artists for my game project, so I would like them to have decent tools.

Thanks for the help.

Well, I think ideally you’d get an Intuos 3 pen, but if that’s a little more than you want to pay, I’d take a look at the sensitivity level and the features of the pens you’re looking at. Make sure they have a decent amount of pressure levels, I’ve personally not used less than 1,024, but certainly I wouldn’t go for anything less than 512. Also, a built-in eraser is a nice feature, but not crucial, as you won’t use it for Zbrush and you won’t use it too much in 2D art either. It is helpful though.

If it’s in your budget, get the Intuos 3 grip pen, it’ll have all you’ll ever need. Otherwise, be careful and compare features.

Actually I just went to Best Buy and found the grip pen that came with the Intuos3. I’m pretty satisfied with it, and I’ll be getting my tablet tomorrow from my apartment office.

I am soooooo excited!

Thanks for the thoughtful reply.
