PC DEAD...........a horror story.

7.00pm Thursday
I began work on my new ZScripts having taking all the wonderful advice from Super Dave.

7.15pm
Getting really excited about latest ZScript and tell a few people on ICQ

7.30pm
Machine Crashes! unusual for this newish AMD based PC me thinks…
7.45pm
Machine in bits all over the computer room. WOrried look on face.

8.00pm
Diagnosis on tihs still new AMD super machine - MOTHER BOARD BLOWN UP!!!.

Yep, the Geforce2 works when tried in my other desk top so the only conclusion is the KT7 RAID has bit the dust.

11.00pm
Tears, expletives, tears, alchohol, tears, restless ZBrush deprived psudo-sleep

9.00am Following day…
Glen late for work as he storms into PC shop when he purchased the thing with tower under his arm.

11.00am…LATER THAT MORNING.
Glen leaves the shop with new motherboard (higher model as well) and a fully working PC. Hoorah.

3.15pm In the office at work…
Writes this post on his laptop and works out how he can get away from work and get back to the ZScript he was half way through when he blew his machine up.

Moral:

  1. Dont join the ratrace. Even if you win, youre still a rat!
  2. Buy your PC/MAC bit from a reliable supplier who is smaller than you and looks nervouse when you arrive at his front door at 9.00 in a morning.

Such is the power of the ZBrush Additction.

LOL. Sorry to hear about the misfortune. I went through something similar a couple of weeks ago, with the CPU fan dying, so know exactly how you felt. Good news, though, on the outcome. Glad to hear it.

By the way, just what ARE you running, now? I’d love to know your system specs.

Man! What a bummer! Glad things worked out in the end, but TWO hours in the PC shop? Oofah!

GREAT story with a happy ending. (Made for TV special???)

Damn Southern, sorry for your struggles, but if it makes ya feel better…I went through the same thing 2 times myself. :frowning:

BUT, that’s the name of the Silicon!

Hi Aurick:

Specs as of tonight:

AMD 1gig on a KT7-A RAID board, 512 RAM, (I have 1 gig but I cant get it running with Millenium and Im looking into Win2000 at present)Geforce 2 GTS 32Meg, 21" Hewlett packard Ergo 16 monitor, 8x12 Wacom, 3x30gig drive with 2 removable racks all of this housed in a server tower.
note: ZBrush flys on the above
note: As long time posters will know I bought this system just for ZBrush and the spec was recomended by someone on tis forum and Im glad I listened. The blown mother board could have happened to anyone! I would go for the KT7 again even if you dont strip or mirroe your drives as it can take 8 EIDE devices which is cool.

I have a networked PII 333 with 128 and a TNT 32 meg card and a 17" monitor sat next to the AMD on the desk. Useful for rendering I find.
At work I use a PI 266 Laptop with 800x600 screen limit and I can just about use ZB on it if I`m desperate.

Kathy said, “BUT, that’s the name of the Silicon!”

I just can’t say it! I respect Kat too much!

Southern, don’t scare me like that. I was waiting to read, “I lost all of my work…” Whew. Sorry for your crappy day but happy you didn’t lose anything but your patience!

And Southern lived happily ever after…
Glad it’s all OK now! (And that you didn’t loose anything! :eek

lol, that has got to suck.
