Panel Loop Bug?

Hi everyone. I am observing a possible problem with panel loops and if anyone can confirm. I am using zBrush 4R6. Steps to recreate are as follows: 1) Load a primitive. 2) Go to Edit (T) 3) Make a polymesh 4) Create a few polygroups either using slice curve or select rectangle. Probably at least 3 groups at the minimum. Go to Geometry>>Edge Loops and find the Panel Loops button. It does not matter what kind of setting you have for it such as polish, double, bevel or elevation etc, however do have at least 2 more loops. Then click Panel Loops. Important note: This is not a Dynamesh, just a polymesh. What happens? On my system it crashes. If you were to select each polygroup individually and click the panel groups button each time for each polygroup then it works, but you cannot sub-divide to get any quality details. Anyone confirm?

I tried 7 loops, no crash. Then 10 loops, no crash. Then 14 loops, no crash. It did crash on 18 loops though.

Issue here, hit panel loops and object disappears.

Doug, I went back and did it again after leaving the program alone for an hour or more, and achieved the same as you, where my object completely disappears. I guess its better than a crash  and I can undo the operation. When it originally crashed I was working with high count polymesh like not more than 5000 but I initialized the second go around at a much lower count no more than 120.

Yeah, I think something is messed up. I’d have had a real cool image…

I resolved the sub-dividing issue, although I have not gone through the steps I have listed above for the panel loops. I could not sub-divide because the whole mesh was masked preventing any changes to it. So I imagine the panel loops issue will also be resolved as well having cleared the mask. As soon as I cleared I could sub divide.

I hate being a newb, but that’s how you learn… Trial and Error to gain experience and expertise.
Hope this helps someone else.
