overpainting texturemap using polypaint or using spotlight

looking if there is a method to overpainting texturemap using polypaint or using spotlight.
simply I dont wantto an object subdivided 7-8 times to see a crystalclean texture painting using spotlight.
looking a good method to paint without subdivide and clean texture using spotlight ?
I think this is not possible. or am I missing something?

Spotlight uses polypaint. As long you use polypaint you will need to subdivide to get enough resolution as it is related to the density of verts.
You can use bitmap texturing, that lacks of those limitations, using zapplink or projection master. Both systems require to drop temporally the geometry in a 2d canvas. But this is a rather indirect way of painting and not so intuitive compared with the tools of polypaint in Zbrush. Other programs have better support of bitmap painting.
