[OT] Zbrush and Rhino3d

Rhino3d. How well do they work together. I’ve noticed several users used Rhino and I’m considering purchasing both. I’m particularly interested in how well Rhino imports dense Zbrush .dxf models (or .obj, if you have the rhino plugin). No on the the Rhino mailing list could help me.

thanks for your time

heyas kptr…try this link…it discusses this issue…hope that helps…

rhino and zbrush and c4d

This is a simple head for one of my comic book characters I started in Rhino, did the basic shape. Took into ZBrush to do details to the mesh. Then back to Rhino to add the eyes and teeth. Then to UVMapper, then to Poser. Then back to ZBrush for morphs.

I presume that you will not have any problem between Zbrush and Rhino !
If Rhino accept Obj format !

Thanks guys. It all looks good. The plugin for obj file import for rhino is $150, btw.

cheers

There is a free program that changes OBJ into Rhino format. It’s called “OBJ to 3DM”. You can get it at the Rhino site, here’s the link:

wow. Thanks Samclun65, I owe you one. or $150

Actually you don’t need the plugin to convert obj files. Rhino Imports DXF very well, i have had very few problems with importing Zbrush models. Just remember that Zbrush is a poly program and Rhino is a Nurbs program. Different types of programs. Rhino can’t do much with Polys, but It exports Nurbs models into Poly mesh models that Zbrush can work with. Hmmm Zbrush is right brain, Rhino is left brain…

Yeah I know that.

My strategy is model worry free in Zbrush, reduce the mesh if needed, and export to Rhino. Then, in Rhino, I could use the poly mesh on surface tool or curve draw on surface tool to rebuild as Nurbs or polys. I’m good at making parameterization but I suffer when modelling and worrying about parameterization. Natural sculpting has such (Clay, etc.) has no such paramertization

This way I have the best of both worlds, awesome models with totally clean geometry.

It costs a bit, but even Maya is 2,000 just by itself, so I think a Zbrush + Rhino solution is good.

you definitely have a handle on it…That’s the perfect approach with the two programs.
