ORC WIP - first high poly work ever for me...

Hi guys… I’m new to ZBCentral, and even newer to the whole HIGH-POLY modeling world.
I used to work a lot in Character Design and Character Animation but only for LowPoly models intented for PC games and I decided to shift my efforts to HiPo work a few months ago.
Please take it easy on me as this is not only my first model using ZBrush, but also my first model that;s higher then 2-3k polys :))))… im now at 50k going to 1 million :)).

I bought ZBrush about 8 months ago, but I was busy working on some other projects, mostly for school (Im in my 2nd Year in Architecture) so I didnt install it untill this winter… but just started working with it I LOVE IT !!!

OK, please criticize it and comment it… I would apreciate it a lot !
I’ll update as I work… BYEZ

COMMENTS PEOPLE COMMENTS

I like the shaping of the body. It looks beefy in a comic sort of way and adds more depth to the form. I would however like to see some close up work as you progress.

One cool thing is that during the filming of Lord of the Rings here in Kiwi land, I played an Orc (as an extra). It was during this time that my interest in computer generated design was born. So for that, I like the Orc. I still want to see the end result if you pursue to complete the entire form fully.

Critic, shape the muscles more, add definition if your poly count allows. From what I could se from the images. Even muscular beasts were ripped, not from working out but starvation, savageness and skinnyness go hand in hand. Keeping the same model, do a variety of shapes with it and compare the results. I usually do this on a sketch pad but zbrush also allows you to adapt and change with ease and speed.

Good luck.

That is an excellent model.

Here is my 5 cents worth.

Perhaps there could be a little more muscle definition in the legs below the knees.

It is a great model though.

Keep up the terrific work.

i’m no expert but maybe his hands are a little small/feminine for such a butch guy… love the model though, really really cool

hi guys! 10x for the comment.

indeed the hands are a bit small at the moment, but that;s because i was worried about their main shapes… fingernails and so on. I will simply add an inflate modifier to each finger and they look good after a little bit more work.

about the lower legs and actually the legs in general:

I didnt add any detail beacuse he’ll have some sort of high boots which ill add later using cloth in max… actually the whole model will be hidden behind pieces of clothing and armour, but I like the experience… as i said, my first hi poly work.

here;s a concept sketch for the guy… dont know if ill stick with it though

Stick with the sketch but let it mold freely.

When I used to model free form “not computer generated”. I used to do the sketches first and always keep a few photocopies, a black pen and some white out handy. This way, if an idea comes into your head at any time after the completion of the initial sketch I can make adjustments on a 2D surface without sacrificing my initial conept. Most of what any artist does never fully resembles the first idea totally.

Keep going mate, your doing well.
