Orbiting round the center of the object with Transpose

Hi,

I GoZ a model from 3ds max press F then when clicking and dragging in the background it then orbits round the object’s centre when I click the Transpose tool it orbits round the some point way off in the distance and it is hard to get the angle that I need to work on it? Zbrush 2020.1.4

Thanks for any advice.

I’m not behind my computer right now so I can’t be 100% sure just yet (will try when I’m back home in a few hours), but… Have you tried the camera lock option? Thought I’m not sure if this would also lock the object.

Hello @marinade

You probably just need to recenter the manipulator. You can do this via the “Go to unmasked center” icon floating above the Gizmo manipulator.

Many thanks both useful things to know about.

It’s just after I have used the “Go to unmasked center” button that does the trick and I can work on it well in Zbrush. When I GoZ back into 3ds max it is in the wrong place, orientation and scale. Is there some way to work on it and use this then have it import back into the right orientation and placement in 3ds max? So far I’ve resorted to moving the entire scene in 3ds max so that this model centres around the origin the then GoZ to Zbrush and it doesn’t have this problem and I can send it back fine too.

I can’t test your workflow directly at the moment, but if all is working properly your mesh should be autoscaled and centered to work in ZBrush automatically. It would be difficult or impossible to work on the mesh otherwise. So what you’re probably seeing is the true size/offset in your external application, which Zbrush restores the model to on export. I have no explanation for why the mesh is offset in 3ds max, but if you restore the position there it should be in the same place when you export it back from ZBrush.
