opening and using .obj file

Hi everyone -

i’m very new to zbrush and brand new in this forum, i hope i can find some help here.

i am drawing and painting a lot (traditionally) - and I wanted to have one of my characters (female head) modeled/rendered in 3d so I can simply use it in zbrush , and to rotate the head as I need different angles and perspectives of the woman with shadow and light. Since I am totally new to sculpting, I decided to have someone make it. I made an order and the guy delivered 2 days ago - the file is an .obj file. from what I understand - this format is good and can be opened in every 3d program. now i need to review the 3d model he did, because i have the right for one modification/revision if i don’t like something.
Problem is i totally don’t get it - i cannot open the .obj file nor can i import it. the only way to get it into zbrush is by importing it into the “tools” - and once i drag or “paint” it on the canvas, it looks pretty rough. As i agreed with the 3d artist it shouldn’t be painted or textured i just needed the sculpted head something like this .

when I try to use the female head that he has made (via brush tool import) then it’s a very rough mesh object, and I am not able to zoom, scale , rotate or anything, to work on it, so that I can review if it’s ok. What am I missing here? maybe the 3d head he made isn’t so rough and undetailed at all, and I am just not able to open and view the file correctly??

Can I upload my .obj file here anyhow so that you can have a look - and see what’s wrong? I would appreciate any help so much, I looked through many tutorials and beginner interface guides, but everything that was explained in the tuts doesn’t apply to me, i simply can’t change into edit mode or simply rotate the object around etc…

thank you in advance for any help!

I think that after you draw the model on the canvas you’re failing to enter Edit mode. Unless you do that, it’s pixols rather than polygons. In other words, it’s 2.5D paint.

Immediately after drawing a 3D Tool on the canvas (including an imported OBJ), press T to enter Edit mode. That’s the shortcut key for Transform >> Edit from within the interface.
