On the Hill

this was an attempt at mood and lighting. I like the idea of scary silhouettes.

(edit: I took out the glowing eye. seemed more frightening without)

I used the ever useful fog alpha to help with some of the smokey effects.

All Zbrush work except signature.

Some really nice rim-lighting, and a great pose, Ken…I always look at your images first for the lighting, and next for the ‘tensions’ in your poses, and this one is great…I can see the tension, and feel the power.

Nice, moody piece…

:+1: :+1: :+1: :sunglasses: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Although I hesitate to offer advice, one thing that occurred to me is that the rim lighting might be intriguing in a more orangy-red color, but that’s just a thought…

I haven’t the word in my lips Ken :D:!! U image are simply perfect!!! :+1: :+1:

Well you achieved your aims Ken, absolutely moody. Good light and fog effects. I remember an old Amiga game that had all it’s graphics done in silhouette, it added so much atmosphere, as your image exudes. :+1: :+1: :+1:

The lighting and effects turned out really well. Looks like the dramatic entrance from a movie :+1:

Really awesome and he is scary!

That is really good, Ken.

This is very very professional looking Ken. You have done an excellent job modelling the body of your figure, which shows you really get into the anatomical frame of mind when creating a figure. I can see this was an important step with this design, as silhouettes aren’t the easiest ways to convey a figure. You can’t rely on strict visual ‘eye-candy’ and a strong sense of character expression. Instead it forces you to look very closely at the posture of your creature. Think about the way the figure moves, the way the figure acts and re-acts with it’s surroundings.

Overall, an excellent peice that shows a great deal of thought and planning. Not only is it a very impressive artwork, showing off your skill, but a very important exercise. Well done Ken.

S. Warner.

thank you for your comments.

Sc, don’t hesitate to offer advice. I had considered using red rim light, but went with the blue. My thinking was the blue came from moonlight, and I knew I was going to use warmer colors as fill, so I hoped the contrast would be nice. It could work the other way too.

And Sirus, thank you for your thoughtful review. I appreciate the time you took to express yourself. you are correct in pointing out the importance of sihouette excercises, you really can learn a lot from them.

Fantastic lighting Ken; it is perfect for this piece. Sets the mood very well. An unknowable menace this way comes…

Impressive image Ken, and the backlighting is very effective. I had a very similar silhouette to this on my long list of self-challenges for personal development - er, quite near the bottom, because modelling anything recognisable at present is a distinct challenge in itself for me.

Thanks for the little aside about fog alphas. Although I have been playing with lighting and rendering options lately, believe it or not, I hadn’t noticed the two boxes for loading the alphas - even though they’re right nect to the colour boxes that I’ve been using regularly. :o It’s amazing how you can miss significant features in this program, even when you think you’re getting to grips with the interface and how things work together.
