Old ztl files (zbrush 2/3) curroupted in zbrush 4r7p2

I recently tried to load a lot of very old models that were originally created in zbrush 2 into zbrush 4r7p2. I’m seeing that the vast majority of them (20 or so .ztl files) are corrupted and just explode when I load them in or crash zbrush completely.

Some load but are almost indistinguishable as models at all. They don’t render their matcaps correctly. They also appear to be INSANELY large for whatever reason. With their tool > geometry > size > XYZ size at 100 On ALL of them. Scaling them down doesn’t appear to fix the issue as I’ve read in other threads.

I believe their actual scale to be WAY, WAY, WAY above 100 and probably closer to 1,000 XYZ because I have to slide down the tool > deformation > scale slider about 32 times before the tool > geometry > size > XYZ size starts to go below 100.

Does anyone know why this happens or how I can fix it? Or a way to get an old installer for zbrush 2 or 3 perhaps so I can save out .obj files of these models so I don’t lose my work all together?

Are zbursh 2 files not compatible with 4r7?!?

Thanks in advance

I may be able to convert these for you. I’ve sent you a PM.

For anyone else that has ran into this issue. I was able to resolve it by installing an old version of zbrush (4r6 in my case) and just opening and then re-saving the ztool. When I opened the “corrupted” ztools in 4r6 they loaded in just fine. I then saved them out of 4r6 as a .ztl and when I opened up the newly saved 4r6 files in 4r7 they were fixed!

I’m not sure what has changed between 4r6 and 4r7 to make it so you can no longer open legacy (zb2) files but that’s how I fixed it…

Not that I expected that it would be fixed so soon, but this same issue occurs in 4r7p3 x64 windows (clean install)
