Old Woman Sculpt - wip

Hi all.

I thought I’d partisipate in the cgWorkshop - Old Age too (much thanks to skulll_monster’s inspiring old lady post), and I wanted to become familiar with the different brushes before I really start.
This sculpt is based on the demohead that ships with ZBrush 3. I went to the lowest subdiv level and deleted higher levels and then went from there.
The reference photo can be seen here and in two and a half hours I came this far:

Some additional hours of fiddling and sculpting. I just installed 3.1 and I gotta say, this is a very nice upgrade. The brushes and physical sense of actually pushing and pulling is very nice.

For this image I believe I used one of Silverwolf’s skin matCaps, which you can find in this thread. VERY nice thread, by the way. Thanks alot, Erklaerbar, for starting it!

A slightly larger one can be seen here.

Looks really good. How are you planning on your final presentation? Rendering in zbrush or another external app?

Ooh…I really like the red on her cheeks. :+1: Brings the model to life.

I love the way she looks: she is a tough one! Although the shoulders seem the ending line of the bust I would give them some more texture and detail too. Always good to let the viewer know where the artwork ends.
I know you are still working on this, but just to find something to comment on: the eyes seem to need more detail and life. How, I don’t know; I haven’t dared trying eyes yet. :o
The cloth on her head somehow doesn’t make real contact with the hear/skin. This maybe the result of the quick way in which Zbrush renders shadows and stuff? If you are going to render this in Zbrush, then maybe you could fiddle a bit with the shadow settings?
Hope I didn’t stated the obvious. Great model so far, and great character! :+1: :+1:

Really good. Tough cookie. She reminds me of an old renaissance cook and you don’t want to be messing up her kitchen…lol wouldn’t want to be on her bad side. really good pic really like her expression.

Hey Pixel,

This is very good man. Subtle and delicate yet very defined. I love your style…

You wouldnt happen to be the same Pixelranger from Lightwave days? The one who did a taxi driver smoking and chatting with a passenger?

If not, nevermind:)

Wicked work man

Cheers

Mario

nice render Pixelranger…but the color are a little young look

kyphur: I’m originally a lightwave guy, and I usually do all my modelling in LW. The last two years I’ve been using maya for everything else at work, so I usually bring the obj into maya after modelling and UV layout.
Now ZBrush or Mudbox (we have them both) is used for sculpting/detailing and then we bring it back to Maya for rendering.
But this time a co-worker (Rune Spaans, www.superrune.com) asked if he could try and set it up for rendering in Max, so tonight we have been throwing files back and forth between Zbrush, Photoshop and Max.
I’ll try to set it up in maya also.

reflexdave: Thank you

Plakkie: All good tips and critisism there. Thanks alot, man! I’ll try to fix all of the issues you mentioned .

Seavannah: Thank you

marioucci: Thank you for the comment. Yep, the very same PR from the lw days :). Logan, right?
Haven’t had much time the last two years to do any personal stuff, so the posting frequency has been very low. But now things are picking up in that area, so I’ll try to be a llittle more active on the forums again.
How are you doing, by the way? I must say, I absolutely love your work! The stuff you have on your website is mindblowing. Nice to see your still around and kicking
Last time I “spoke” to you, you were about to start working for Digic, right? So, when and how did you end up at the Mill? Nice to see you again

skulll_monster: I totally agree. And the paintover on the eyes is just awful!! Thanks for the feedback. I have tried to change it a little, and tomorrow I’ll upload a max render with some more custom textures.

Here’s the modelling progress:

Very Good Work!

:+1:

haven’t had much time to work on this. Just a quick shading test in maya for now.

Ah, that Maya shader does wonders for the skin-cloth connection. Here’s hoping you get more time to work on it.
