OBJ import&edit problem | i can paint, but cannot edit the mesh

okay i imported an obj file from maya with a material .mtl First of all it doesn’t recognize the material, second of all i can’t do anything in Edit mode. I càn however paint with materials, textures and whatnot. Any ideas what can cause this?

Well, first off the .MTL is not used by ZBrush. You must manually load the texture using the Texture palette and flip it vertically so that it can display correctly in ZBrush.

As for your other question, could you describe the steps that you’re following?

okay, this derived from a nurbs model. i know this can’t be converted directly to obj, so i converted to polys, then to obj+mtl. opens up w/o problems in 3ds, maya, … +zbrush however, the problem remains. imorting the texture by hand wont be a problem, but i dunno why i can’t sculpt it in 3D???

I don’t know why, either. Could you show a screen shot of your entire interface when the problem occurs?

ey man, thanks for trying to help, but as most of the times it was my fault and not the computer’s. when converting to polys i had some nurbs and subd leftovers, not visible but i saw them in the outliner. Got rid of em and now everything is working AOK.

So happy i can finally start sculpting my own model now!

All i have to do now is figure out the texture thingie…:qu:

sorry - text did not post?

Make sure you have no overlapping UV’s. Convert your texture to a photoshop or bmp file. In ZBrush go to Texture > Import then flip verticaly. Should work.
