Northern Ireland Mod - We could do with a hand...

Okay, I’m expecting p***-taking here, mainly as its mod work, and therefore unpaid.

I’m J, and i’m the team leader of a new modification for Crysis Warhead in development, called Northern Ireland: 1983, set in Northern Ireland, and featuring the Troubles prominantly. As its a complete conversion, theres several character models that will need doing, from civilians, to army soilders, to police, to paramilitary members.

At the moment, we’re lacking character artists, so what better place than to ask, than on Zbrushcentral?

I’d like it to be noted, all work done belongs to the artist, and can be used in any other work they do later on, for example in their portfolio (It’d be daft to say otherwise, really - I don’t see the point in that.).

Anyone interested in taking that task on?

dunno if this is teh best place, knowing zrbush dosnt equal knowing how to do a low poly model, bake normals and ao and do uvs ;f

Heh, having 3DS doesn’t equals having those skills either, i’d like to point out.

For the most part, not that difficult to do, and if needs be other team members are able to do anything that someone isn’t able to do.

Where would you suggest asking for people, can I ask?

polycount and gameartisan are forums dedicated to game art you could try it there.

Cheers - thanks for the info.

yeah wanted to say that, there are hunderets of ppl dedicated to game art there ;] Also mod db forums and jobs soction, and also there is the recrutation section, and it in it self isnt a bad place to look.

Heh, ModDB isn’t what it used to be, in regards to recruitment. Unless your work happens to be on Source, you’ll get very little help, unless you put a lot of time and effort into looking people.

Is it me, or is there a time delay on being able to post replys on here?

Maybe your posts are being moderated the first time around im not sure.
Mine show up directly.

If you have a good concept artist for those characters i think you could always
post them here and maybe someone will take on them if they like them.
Commiting to a mod seriously and being part of a team often scares people
away as these mods mostly never make it.
However if i liked a concept it could always happen that id do it just for me
and give you a version for the mod.
Its very unlikely but it could happen.

sounds interesting, but do you have concept art? or would it be up to the character artist to deliver on the design?

My big question is how likely is it that your mod will make it onto a game portal like steam? or what is the intended delivery?

either post here or send me a pm
cheers

Hmm, the concept art is still in progress, and being smartened up - along with some changes been made to hair styles, and the like, but yeah, i’ll get them up, or a link to them when they’ve been completed.

Yup, we have concept art for the characters, the same with the environments we’re doing. Its a combination of handrawn concepts, and photoconcepts that we’re using, for the most part.

Honestly, i’m not entirely sure. The reception, as a whole, has been mixed, due to the subject matter involved with the game - anything involving Northern Ireland, you’ll get that - but on the whole its been fairly good. If it works well enough, it might well end up steam, but as its a Crysis Warhead modification, I can’t say how likely, or unlikely that it will occur. The main areas that it’ll be released on, are ModDB, FPSB, and Crymod, along with a few other german language sites (Hey, Crytek is a German based company after all.).

Hope that answers your questions?

well still sounds interesting, but still waitin for images

Heh, you’ll be waiting a day or two, they still need the changes adding to them, and beautifying a bit.

A day or two, max. Only disadvantage to modding - voluntary work means you end up with work being done slower. =/

Why ? i was posting my thrtead on mod db, that i will help in interesting mods just 2-3 weeks ago, and i can do everything from high polyt low poly texturing, also some ppl i work with now also offered their help there, its just if you want a good person to join you, you have to give something back, like pretty good concept art, or an interesting idea ;]

Unless its Source, you’re unlikely to receive help. Everything is regarded as evil, and shoddy. Particularly crysis.

im owrking on 2 mcrysis mods now, so i dunno about that ;]

Mind me asking which two, outta interest?

And for the most part, Crysis is regarded as “teh ebil” on moddb - Source rules supreme, for the most part. Only about… 2 Crysis mods, Petrograd and CryRecon are thought of as amazing, even if you don’t like Crysis.

Anyway, i’m getting off the point.

I was thinking more in lines of eclipse and light spire, but it mey end up being a commercial product ;f

Heh, i don’t regard them as mods anymore, as they’ve both got evaluation copies of the SDK - meaning source code access.

Right, as our concept artist is still cleaning and fiddling with the other 5 squad characters, i’ll stick these up anyway. Would anyone be interested in having a go at making them?
