normal map issue - modeling a suit

Hello,
I am trying to model a suit for a male character. I am using xNormal to right out the normal maps, but i see these artifacts(?) or some kind of reflections in the collar area. i have been trying to figure this out for about a week now. Have you guys ever had this problem?

In order to create the normal map. all i do is (in xNormal)

  1. select the High Def Mesh
  2. select low def mesh
  3. setup out put file name
  4. go to Tools tab> Ray distance calculator, then copy the values.
  5. Generate maps.

I am guessing that the collar of the suit is too close to the mesh, how should i model the suit or a shirt which have collars?

thanks in advance

It is a distance error because of the geometry being too close together. The way you modeled it is just fine though, but you’re going to need another step.

You’ll need to do multiple bakes for the object and blend them together in photoshop. Once for the collar (keep 1 extra polygon row beyond where you need to bake). Once for the jacket. Then put one on top of the other and erase/mask out until you meet the over lapping geo.

thanks for the reply, i will try that.

thanks
