Normal map includes a image of the base mesh (sort of)

Hi there,
while generating a normal map, i was stumbling over strangee effect. I am baking on the first level of 6 subdivision levels. Map generates and looks ok so far. But on closer look it includes an “normal image” of my base mesh (i marked a smapp part with red lines, but as you can see its all over the place).
My base mesh has a quite low resolution and while subdividing i did not switch on smooth because i wanted to avoid any contortions in the mesh.
Has anybody any idea why that is and how i may get a clean normal map witout these “low res mesh artefacts”?
Best regards,
Heiner

Save a backup of your model, then at the lowest subdivision level apply a Crease All (Tool>Geometry>Crease All) before generating the normal map again.

I will try that!

Hi Marcus,
i tried the procedure you described, but it did not help.
This here is the Result:

Regaards,

What options did you select in the Normal map settings?

I use create texture from uv check to generate UVs (Model has a uv set) and then just normal mat -->Tangent and create normal map.

I did not switch on “Smooth low res normals” (stupid me!)
Now it works!
Thanks to all for your Help!

Yes you need that enabled all the time in my experience.
