Noisemaker and Bump Maps?

I was wondering if anyone could give me a brief overview of of using noisemaker to create bump maps.

I would like to avoid dividing and polypainting my model to get this, though. I would prefer to stick to a colour map and use the bump map viewer material to see the results.

Can anyone help me here?
