no shadows bug after a few bpr shadow changes

hi and congratulations to/for the community
i wonder if anyone else has encountered this bug or if it’s an installation problem
when i change the bpr shadow settings (let’s say i change the angle) and naturally click bpr render to evaluate the result, i get a bpr render, so far so good
but, if i keep tweaking the shadow setting and naturally keep asking for additional bpr renders to evaluate the change, then various problems arise
after a while, the first bpr render after each settings’ change, is missing shadows
i confirmed this by inspecting the render passes panel which clearly shows the shadow pass is not being generated at all on the first render after a shadow settings’ change
for this, i click for a second bpr render in a row (no settings’ changes), and i get a correct render, with shadows
that’s annoying but not an absolute disaster, i just click the bpr render button again
the bigger problem is that later on, still tweaking/bpr rendering, and while i still have to ask for a second bpr render in order to get shadows, the second bpr render is sometimes based on older bpr shadow settings (not the ones i just changed)
you can imagine that this is problem because sometimes i don’t know if im looking at the correct render since i may have changed a setting that i don’t know how it should render

if i could guess, i would say the behaviour seems to be linked with zbrush’s attempt to ‘cash’ render settings, ie to keep unchanged settings for the new renders in order to save time, and that it seems to be a bug somewhere in there

has anyone else had this?
thanks

ps: also, i apologize in advance for any delays from my side but im a new member and my posts may need to be approved first

Yes I too have experienced this “Shadow Bug”. Not sure if its both versions though

ah thanks for you reply
so, really? u’ve seen it too? that’s good news from the perspective that it is a known issue
but what to you mean both versions? i thought we didn’t have a 64-bit version yet(?)

I have had this happen too, but I always thought it was something I did.
Hmmmm…

Yes there is a 64 bit exe in the ZBrush folder. Works better now since patch3 . I haven’t gotten into a render session yet in p3, so I’m not sure if the shadow bug has been fixed

I haven’t used Shadowbox for quite a while and I’m surprised to see that the ‘box’ itself seems to be now persistent in 4R7 whereas in the past it wasn’t the last time I used it. Have I missed something along the way or is there now a method of getting rid of ShadowBox that appears for all primitives created even after doing an initialization?
