OK I am seriously at a loss… I can’t get a displacement map from Z3.1 to work in Maya2008.
I’ve referenced and attempted renders using the tutorials or walkthroughs in the following threads

But to start off with… why are none of my DE3 maps readable by maya? I export using the DE-LBEK-EAEAEA-R32 settings which gives me the tif. This is unreadable by maya
// Error: Image conversion (to IFF) failed //
// Warning: Failed to open texture file D:/PixelLogic/ZBrush3/ZTools/Zbrush Models/Displacement Test/Color_Mantis+R32 .tif //
I’ve attempted to convert this into a map file using the convert batch file from this thread http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=43264&page=1&pp=15
This allows the map to load in maya but shows the default file icon rather then a gray image. The render appears to show no displacement at all.
I’ve got the Window>Settings and Preferences>Rendering Use maya style alpha detection box checked.
On the model I have tried with feature displacement turned on and off
I have attempted to use the script posted here http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=56061&page=1&pp=15
But maya2008 dosen’t seem to like it
It errors out in the first line
Error: (‘invalid syntax’, (’<maya console>’, 2, 2, '//COPY THE SCRIPT FROM HERE
'))
File “<maya console>”, line 1
//COPY THE SCRIPT FROM HERE
^
SyntaxError: invalid syntax
In all renders I get no evidence of a displacement map.
In 1 render I managed to achieve floating polygons on the model but not what I want to see.
Maybe I need it written in crayon But this is seriously preventing me from getting anything finished since I am unable to get them out of zbrush.
Is there an obscure setting somewhere I am missing thats not mentioned in any of the threads posted above?
Screenshots of windows or settings can be made if requested
Update:
I discovered I didn’t have the tiffloatloader plugin loaded and the DE3 exported tiff now seems to load but now when i try t render I get an error in the script window
// Error: Fatal (mental ray) : mental ray encountered a fatal error. The system may have become unstable. Please save the scene and exit Maya. //
And in the output window…
mental ray: got 8 satellite CPUs.

Does this plugin need to be turned on for maya to read the DE3 exports?
