Nice planet, I think I'll take it...

In the Spirit of 50’s Kid’s alien invasion theme, I give you Finster the surly alien runt. Hell bent on taking over the earth, this 3 1/2 foot terror will give us all a run for our money. He’s named Finster after “Baby Face Finster” from a Bugs Bunny cartoon.

He’s made AGAIN from the “Lumpy” head base which is a spherized cube base. I spent most of yesterday making a proportional male human head to keep in practice. He came out OK, but the creatures that lurk inside my twisted cranium called forth Finster. I finally started getting into actually painting my models again.

Finster is Z-Brush with Photoshop smoke and a WEE bit of cigar touch up.
His suit, when I finish it will be supplied by Botany 500.

Oh, Finster’s great, Dickie! I’d love to see him in a scene. Such a great sneer. And nice cigar. Well done! 50.

Actually, I want to put him on a rocket bike, flying past the camera and flipping off the viwer. I want the background to be a kinda Norman Rockwell type main street scene, with a general store in the background.

Me actually making this scene is another matter…LOL. Next thing I do with him will be his body and the rocket bike. BUT that won’t happen till next weekend probably. Too busy at work…

Glad ya like him, Rich…

.

Andre and ZB_Artist: Thanks for thr comments. Glad you like him.

I updated the model a bit. I bulged his cranium so he looks more like a 50’s alien invader. I started on the body last night, but it’s not ready for prime time yet.

More updates to come…

Just plain wicked mate, love it

hahaha I love this last big head version!!

I can see him on an old norton riding with Brando or in a baby buggy in a Rockwell scene…the latter is cracking me up just thinking about it…

Can’t wait to see where ya go with him!

LOL, he is so cool
like it :+1:

and he gets better with age.

He most certainly is a geezer of diminutive stature with a big grudge.

Really enjoy the quality of the line of your models and look forward to future postings.

Very cool! Lots of character! Hope the Zodiac is treating you well!

Great work, I love the skin tone,

Well, I played with the body a bit, but still didn’t come up with anything I like yet. Z-Spheres can be sooo finicky… Anyway, I got the head to where I like him finally, that perfect mix of cartoony and serious. Well, that’s the way I like to make my creatures anyway…LOL

Buckie: Glad you like his wicked nature…he lives in us all, somewhere…:stuck_out_tongue:

Aminuts: The baby buggy idea is hysterical. I’m actually thinking along this line now, Thanks for the idea and as always your kind words…

Cral: Thanks for the props, Bro

Boozy: I am glad that you are digging this lil bugger. As I was always a fan of your illustration, your comments mean a hell of a lot to me, artistically. Thank you for taking the time to comment…

Ryan: How ya doin’ at yer new job, Bro? Wish I got to talk to ya more at the old joint. We’re crazy with delivery right now, but things are looking cool. I’m glad yer watching over us all…

Portart: Glad you like the skin. I’m finally getting my skin down to where I want it.

If anyone wants my light and skin setups, here they are. Lately I’m using Rimasson’s “Blackman” light setup, heavily modified to my color preferences as Rimmason’s colors work VERY well with black skin but not so well with lighter shades. Also my current skin is a mix of my old human skin mat mixed with Rimasson’s skin. A personal thank you to Rimasson for sharing your lights and materials. They taught me a lot about how to use lights in Z-Brush.

a Link to Rimasson’s files is here:

And my materials and lights are here:

Anyway, hope ya like this latest version…

Hi Dickie
wow, so much expressive mesh!
Compliment.
One question: the face is a texture or a simple skin shader where you paint over?
thx
bye
Leo

Leo,

I think you are asking is he painted outside of Projection Master? The answer to this is both. I initailly make a blank skin colored texture for him. Then I work out the general shades on the mesh in tha main window NOT using projection master. I then go into Projection Master and add veins and other smaller, more detailed painting, such as in the ear folds and around the nose and eyes.

The way that he is lit in the latest render does not show all the vein and color details that are on him now. I generally tend to “paint” with light and let the other painted details show through where they will.

His eyeballs are painted in Projection Master. There are a LOT of veins there, but you can’t see them much due to this lighting setup.

I hope this answers your question, Leo…

If any more clarification is needed, just ask…

Hey man,
thx for reply.

Then I work out the general shades on the mesh in tha main window NOT using projection master
What do you mean?In this way
If i understand you have a texturemap with the skin shader like a base and vein and bear paint over.
Is it right?
Bye
Leo

Great looking image Dickie. I love the results of your skin. I think if you were to put your alien up against mine, he would win. He’s got more attitude. Perhaps I shall give mine a cigar.

Love the work.

Dickie, Thanks a lot for the compliments on my thread. I don’t know how I missed this guy . I guess a lot of posts pushed out of the way before I saw it. He is a lot of fun ,I especially like the last version, reminds me of a pissed of version of the outer limits sixth finger alien. very cool
mm

Leo, basically I paint a single color for the base then I paint the broad colors on using the RGB, not the Z-Add brush. After I get the model to where I’m mostly done sculpting, I then bring him into Projection Master for the fine detail painting. I’m still refining my technique, but that’s the fun part about Z-Brush, the learning…

Neville: I’m glad you like the skin tones. I worked for a long time coming up with that look. I keep changing it every few weeks. Please download the zip file and take a look at the settings. If you have any questions about the lights or Material, please feel free to ask. These are the best forums for any package that I’ve found on the Net. I would not have enjoyed Z-Brush a 10th as much as I do without the folks here.

As for comparing our aliens. Neville! This is an exhibition, not a competition! Please, please, no wagering…

I think that your alien illustration would look great with an American Spirit Menthol cigarette danglin’ from his lips…
I’m just astounded that you captured my teenaged daughter’s angst without even meeting her! Bravo!!

MonsteMaker: I’m glad you made the Outer Limits Sixth Finger connection. Even though I didn’t use him for reference directly, it’s that type of look I was going for, so I guess I succeeded… Now I need to get my Z-Sphere chops up so I can make him a cool space Suit. I have an idea, I just don’t quite have the skill quite yet…I’ll get there soon…

Keep those cards and letters coming, kids…
