I figured out my own problem.

Apparently Edge Loop does not work properly then there are higher subdivisions present.

I did a Del Higher, hide all but the geometry that I wanted to make an edge loop for and clicked on EdgeLoop. ZBrush gave me exactly what I expected, a nice clean new edge loop.

I’m happy to have figured it out. I am not happy that it won’t work on stuff I have already sculpted on. Of course there are plenty of ways to get around it.

Hope this is useful to someone.

Poda- Strange, yeah in ZB3 doesn’t seem that edge loops act as they did in ZB2. In ZB2 I could take a skin mesh and take it to the lowest subdivision 1 then select the polys I want and create the edge loop and still keep all my subdivisions. Even on a sculpted model. Check out the thumbnails I loaded. Appears there may be some edge loop settings like refit, inner regroup and outer regroup either they don’t have anymore in ZB3 or it does them automatically and you don’t have to select them. No clue why but edge loops don’t appear to be acting as they once did in ZB2. Will play with it more and see if I find out anything. Though may be able to make the edge loops in ZB2 to skin and then bring it into ZB3 for more sculpting.

Okay. So I’m not buggin’! There is something different. It’s been a long time since I played with ZB2 and I really didn’t get that well versed in all the techniques but I thought I remembered something like that. Thanks for checking on that.

Hmm,

I keep running into issues.

Now I am trying to use ZProject and things aren’t lining up.

if anyone can tell me what I’m doing wrong and how to fix it I will be very thankful.

Inspired by the sculpt challenge over at subdivisionmodeling.com I did this in aobut 40 mins. Hope you like it.

You need to reset the Transpose offset. Activate Transpose and click on the mesh (without moving the mouse), this will set the Transpose offset to 0.

Thanks Aurick I will give that a try.

Hey gang,

I decided to cut loose a little and do an asymmetrical sculpt from scratch. I built a posed, asymmetrical base mesh in Maya and brought it into ZB3 to sculpt and make pretty.

It still needs some love but I think it’s not a bad start. What say you?
