Newbie question about filling holes/empty spaces.

Hello,

Just started using ZBrush and it’s quite impressing (but a little confusing). Hopefully this is the right place to ask.

I have some models generated by photogrammetry with some mesh problems, which I was hoping to fix in ZBrush.
A sample of the mesh looks like this:
Untitled.jpg

A number of holes and bumps are clearly visible. I figured out how to smooth/flatten the bumps, but can’t figure out how to fill the holes.
Those aren’t mesh imperfection type holes, more like doughnut holes. So can’t be fixed by the usual “geometry fixes” one gets when searching for filling holes.

Suggestions on a workflow for filling in those empty spaces?
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest using combination of inflate brush and dynamesh , infalte and dynamesh again, and so on till all holes are closed

Thanks.
I will try that out.

So given the amount of holes to fix, I thought I’d try something different.
Figured it’s easier to fill those in with another mesh.

So the flow is:

  • Add a cube subtool
  • Fit it to cover the holes. Looks like this:
  • ![Untitled3.jpg|880x539](upload://2Pv70RhoDvAZ6IiDfA7Dh1ogCDZ.jpeg)
  • Then Subtool -> Merge Visible (with UV selected)
  • After the merge, original texture can be applied to the original part of the model. Looks like this:
  • ![Untitled4.jpg|868x455](upload://oSlCAfxf8BrkFdj0MXRHJ1OS8OF.jpeg)

The HOPE was to paint over the garbled part of the resulting mesh to “smooth” the colors.
I unclick “Zadd” and click “Rgb”. Set “Current Texture” on the left pain to “Texture Off”.
But I can’t seem to be able to paint. Probably missing enabling/disabling something

Any other suggestions on dealing with this?
