Newbie Dynamesh issue.

Hello there, as stated I’m both new to Zbrush as well as new to the forums here.

I watched a few tutorials and so far everything went fine. but twice now I lost
my obect by zooming and rotating so that it went outside of the canvas. I read
on the forums here that it’s a good idea to exit edit mode and then draw your tool
again. It kinda works to find my object again, but then when I wanted to redraw
my dynamesh the detail was gone. I had my dynamesh set to 128 to start modeling
the main shapes, but after I fixed this recentering issue, when i wanted to redraw
it looked like it was 16 or something, even tho it’s still on 128. i can continue adding
minor shapes without it altering the detail untill i want to recalculate.
What is the proper order when I encounter this ? which steps am I missing.

F is the key to frame your mesh.

You shouldn’t ever need to drop you model to the canvas and redraw it to find it again.

As for how your dynamesh is looking you’ll need to post up images to show what you’re encountering I think.

ok thanks for that.

so after i drop the model again it looks exactly how i was working on it in dynamesh. (left side of image)
then i can continue working but then when i press dynamesh (or recalculate) it ends up looking like the right side of the image.

dynamesh resolution is dependent on mesh scale. 128 resolution will always create the same size polygon, if your mesh is larger in scale than it will need more of the same size polygons to cover the volume. If your mesh is smaller than it will require fewer.

This is very noticable when working with a full character and you try to use the same resolution for a belt buckle as you did for the whole torso. It is also very noticeable if you use the same dynamesh resolution before and after using deformations>unify.

Anyway, to fix your problem just increase your dynamesh resolution.

alright that worked,
and to fully understand i opened up an earlier version, copied the new tool
and did append to the old one in the subtool, resized it to similar size, and
recalculated. that gave me te same results too. i think i get it now, thank you.
