Newbie advice

Hi

I am just starting to use Zbrush and plan to create my own android style work that I can 3d print and motorize.

One of the already created 3d objects is a female head.

Its perfect for what I need at the moment but I want to be able to cut it up so that the face only is used and hollow it out so that I can create the sections behind it.

So my question is, how do I first hollow the 3d object, then how do I cut it into sections. And I would like to create a step file to export it into another program, and not sure how to export it.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Ian

First start learning the basics of Zbrush from Michael Pavlovich Intro to Zbrush

Then you’ll know tools like slice brushes, Zmodeler, Dynamic Thickness and so on which will be useful for what you want to do.

For example:
Delete the bottom neck polygons. You model is instantly hollow.
Duplicate, slice the face off and delete the non-face polygons, or, mask the face, polygroup the masked area (Ctrl-W), show only the face polygroup and delete the rest, thicken up with Zmodeler:Qmesh or try Dynamic Thickness.

All these things are covered in the basics. Also search YT AskZBrush for specific topics or browse Pixologic ZClassroom for more detail and project related videos.

Have fun.
