Hey all,

As far as I know there aren’t.
One of the cool things about zbrush is learning curves and stuff. You can take a tool…a particular brush or anytool and edit it, it’s curves, using a specific alpha, adjust its modifiers,
etc etc. You can then save it, naming it something appropriate, and then it’s available for you in projection master at least.
Actually this is an idea for a thought on a zscript too. hmmmm.
I haven’t thought about it or tried it but i wonder if you can save your modifed layer, smooth etc brushes…darn it now ya got me thinking! hahahaha well I have something to ponder at work now! You can probably save the curves but not sure about the tool. Hmmmmm.
will experiment when i get home tomorrow morning and see what comes up and let ya know.
Roller Brush, Directional Brush and Deco Brush.
Aminuts Thanks for the info. What I would actually like to do is use the Layer brush tool and add a fall off to the edges of it so if I needed I could get a feathered edge. Do you think this could be done?
Acutally I just tried the curve, I am still new to zb. Please let me know if you can think of anything else on this
yes i don’t have the time at the moment to work up a picture for you but will give you two places to work.
first is play with the focal shift. the second is in the transform menu after you select the layer brush the edit curve menu is active…click on it and adjust the curve…if i remember correctly the right side represents the middle of your brush and the left side is the outside of the brush.
adjust your curve to your liking.
you can also soften the edges of an alpha in the alpha palette use ref at about 15 to soften the edges of the alpha
hope that helps some.
The default alpha is already feathered, and you’ve got focal shift on top of that. Bristle Mode may also help.
…and for the record, Aminuts types MUCH faster than me.
If I remember right the default alpha that loads with the layer brush is the square white one which is not feathered. But setting the ref will make it so. Or you can choose one of the many other alphas included or make your own.
lots of options!
hahaha I have the fastest two fingers in the mid-west!
ok go to work now nuts. ok ok.
Ok so I tried setting different alphas and using the layer tool. HUM, So let me get this straight. I can only use the alpha as a brush ONLY IF I am in projection master right? The layer brush stroke type is not affected by the alpha when I am in edit mode. Is this correct or am I missing something
The layer brush itself can’t be accessed from within Edit Mode, so if you wanted that specifically, it either means Projection Master or playing in 2.5D mode with your dropped Pixols. Which are more or less the same thing, really, but if you want to pick up those changes and apply them to your model, that does mean Projection Master.
As for using Alphas in edit mode… I don’t know if it’s directly possible, but you should search this forum for any sort of Stencil tutorials. That might be closer to what you’re after. Check also the Practical Guide.
This is covered in Gnomon’s “Intro to ZBrush” DVD, the Digital-Tutors video, and I think there might be a free video floating around that explains the same concept (but I don’t remember where).
i will post a pic up in a little bit with some examples. It’s gonna take me awhile cuz I gotta thaw out from driving in this horrible snowstorm we got going on!
Where’s the road? I don’t know! Don’t go that way though cuz that car is facing the wrong way and looks kinda funny upside down!
