New Layers Button not working

Any reason this might be disabled after doing some operation? Its not working with my current ztool.

You need to go to the same subdiv level than the one where you first created a layer.
It seems you can work on a layer on every subdiv level but only access the layer menu on the same dubdiv level you created the first layer.

Or maybe an area of your mesh is hidden.

I figured it out. It was the face that I had the mesh partially hidden. WHen I un-hid the rest of the mesh I was able to add new layers. SteveW thanks for the other info I no doubt would have stumbled on had you not mention it.

By the way

Always create the layers in the highest subdiv level or else the layers won’t work correctly.

Steve

Yeah Im starting to notice that. For instance, I create a layer on a level like 2 subd’s from the highest, then sculpt. Find out that, eh, I dont like what I did on this new layer so I hide and delete it. For what ever reason when I go back thought my subd levels, the reminance of the layer I deleted show up on the surface of the model. Very annoying! Is that because of when I created the layer I wasn’t at the highest level??

If you want to delete a layer so that its sculpting disappears from your model, you must switch off its visibility first (click the eye icon). Simply deleting bakes that layer’s sculpting into your model.

Edit -sorry, misread your question. I’ve no idea if creating layers at lower level causes your problem.

yep, everyting on top of the level where you created the layer will not be affected by any layer adjustment.

layers feel a bit…euh…flakey at the moment ?
