New and Need help with 3 D printing

Hey y’all I am a bit new to core and very new at 3D printing. In core is there still a way to “optimize for 3D printing” option? I saw that in an older tutorial. Does anyone have a step by step on how to take a model sculpted in core to print? Thanks.

Hello @jsalazar2272

Preparing a model for 3d print is a complex process and skillset in its own right. It’s a broad subject that cant be covered in a forum post. You will need to study 3d print resources dedicated to the type of printer you have.

Slicing for an FDM printer will be different than slicing and prepping for an SLA printer. Likewise, prepping for one kind of FDM printer will be different than prepping for another FDM printer. It may involve cutting your model up into separate pieces designed to fit together after printing, and there are many practical concerns about how to model your piece for better printing results.

In terms of exporting meshes from ZBrush Core for print, this is basically going to come down to Decimating. Most slicing software will struggle with extremely high polycount meshes, so you need to Decimate to crunch that polycount down while retaining as much detail as possible. ZBrush Core has a number of Decimation Master target presets. Find one that reduces the polycount as far as possible while producing acceptable looking results.

The 3d Print Hub plugin also has additional options for sizing and analyzing a model for print, but is not strictly necessary.

Good luck! :slightly_smiling_face:
