Hi, so I’ve been creating some art sculptures, and they were starting to look really good. Or at least that is what I think. My art is subjective, what other people see in it, I don’t care. Now, Zbrush 2021.5 came along, and since that I’ve updated Zbrush to Zbrush 2021.5, and even tried to reinstall Zbrush 2021.5 from the website that you can access through my licences, Zbrush 2021.5 has been crashing more than once. Maybe it is just the build? Maybe, there is something else going on. Whatever the case might be, the software should function properly. I’ve tried to figure out the problem. But sometimes even the tool functions seem to behave differently. For example when I click shift+F Line fill / (Draw poly lines.) sometimes shift+F just shows the colours and not the poly lines at all. Sometimes Dynamesh reacts very different when you interact with the polygons by smoothing the surfaces, or trying to deform it with a brush, namely the polygon surface is changing / triangulating in Zbrush when trying to deform a dynamesh surface. Now this does not always happen, but it does sometimes, or it did when I was trying to do some art sculptures. There should never be triangles, or atleast I think so. There should be squares, or quads. So how did this happen? I’d love to know what is going on. The mesh is created from a zSphere. I was able to see this because I’ve clicked linefill (draw polygon lines) to check the polygon lines on the surface because I’ve noticed that the surface was changing in a strange matter. I’ve never imported a mesh into Zbrush when this happened so I’m really curious.
I have windows 8, but that wasn’t a problem before with the previous builds of Zbrush. Could it be a problem now with Zbrush 2021.5?
So because this did not happen with previous builds of Zbrush, I don’t believe that my computer specs are the reason that this happens. I’m posting this message because I don’t know anything about technical software zbrush details, and maybe you do. Is there something that I can do, so that the Zbrush Software 2021.5 works accordingly? And I mean, I specifically, not someone else. Thanks for reading. I’ve always liked sculpting, and I always thought it is an interesting hobby to do in the nights I can’t sleep. So that is a bit off topic but, oh well. I guess I’m just interested to see if someone else has a problem like this, or have a clue to why this could be happening? If so, please let me know about this.
Hello @JeffreyOort
The Line and the Fill are two separate components to polyframe mode. Each can be disabled via small toggles in the upper portion of the polyframe button. Once deactivated, they will be deactivated even if you activate polyframe mode via the shortcut. It would not be uncommon for a user that is unaware of these toggles to accidentally de-activate one or the other when manually clicking on the polyframe button.
It sounds like you may have Sculptris Pro mode enabled.
It may have something to do with what you are doing in the program, a bug that is affecting your workflow, a specific file or tool you are using, or a bad interaction with something else in your hardware or software environment. In all cases we would need much more information to investigate it, and the other users of the community forums will be unlikely to be able to help you.
Please go to Pixologic Support, and start a conversation there. This is where all technical issues concerning ZBrush should be reported.
Thank you!
Most of what you’ve said are indeed causing these issues.
How does Sculptris Pro activate by itself though? I don’t recall pressing the button to enable Sculptris Pro. But indeed, if you activate Sculptris Pro you get a similar result as to what I was describing. (Triangulations of the surface that is interacted with a brush in Zbrush with.) So is there a hotkey?
Pardon me, with these noob questions. In the past I’ve mostly tried Mudbox, I did try Zbrush too though, but Mudbox had a student version so… (Zbrush if you’re reading this, please support your eagerly learning students by creating a student version for students so that when they finish school they’ll never have to be seen as noobies. Happy Holidays <3 )
I’ve noticed that when I was trying to open a recovered file, the system almost always crashed, so I went to a version before that and the system wasn’t crashing so much anymore. Please do note that it was Windows that was crashing while using Zbrush, and not Zbrush, although the only program running that I think was running at the time is Zbrush. At least that is what the task manager was describing to me, I think. So I’ve sort of went through the process of reinstalling Windows again. Maybe that was silly. Anywho, I love you too. Thanks for the solutions and so.
