A new mod for Half-life 3 Is in production. The Mod will have Better Graphics than any game before its time. It will only be able to be played on high preformance machines so we are looking for people to help model for the mod. Not much else we can work on until Half-life 3 sdk comes out. So we will work on prop models and character models and object models like guns and ect. The game will be an addictive rpg taking place in the future. The Gameplay will be pretty much similar to the mecklenburg role play amx mod for the specialist that so much people went nuts for. But of course it will take place in a large city. Probably about 3 miles worth of mapping. In like 4-5 different levels. Each level will be interconnected and players can do about anything. Mostly it will be driven by the ambition to become powerful in the mod and start wars. Destroy Buildings, Repair Buildings. Buy buildings, Keep a Job, Work In Crime, Work as a Cop, Rob Banks, Pick Locks and go in other peoples property and steal there stuff. The possibilities will be endless. This wont take up alot of your time. We wont work you full time. Just as long as you agree to model at least one model would be perfectly fine.
Half-Life 3 has not even been announced. What are you talking about? You probably mean Half-Life 2. Anyway, I can’t really help at the moment at all. I’m sure someone else here might be able to.
The model assets can be ready before the game is made so that when the game is shipped they can quickly be added via the HL3-SDK when it comes out. I’m in. Ugly stuff is my specialty.
Oh and Valve is working on HL3 as we speak.
this is a work for free gig I take it?
Half life is a game that people can tweak with mods once they buy the game right? Was looking up info on half life 2…
the reason I ask all this is that I think I found you, Derek on another forum…ie

Just curious about your project is all.
thnx

Yeah the SDK comes with the game. You download it from Steam.
Here are some useful resources I found browsing around:

Half life 3??? ddnt heard about it yet. You mean half life 2 no? i might be intrested. just tell us more about the mod, we are hungry curiouse about it.
Yes Half-life 3 is in production. It was announced in about 1 or 2 sentences in the feb. Pc gamer mag in the top ten games of all time under the summary of Half-life 2. So we are recruiting as we speak. This is a non-paid gig but its just for those half-life fans out there that wants to give something back to there devotion for the half-life saga. And of course you will be very popular if you were a designer for this mod. Im not accepting no junky artists. Everything in this mod will be prime material.

Im in, looks cool and allways good for experience and fun.
im a watcher of the hl2 modding community and have heard nothing about hl3. They are making episodic content using source, and plan on using source for a long time just adding technical improvements and updating the sdk later like they did with hdr.
i wouldn’t suggest modding a game that has not been released, especially if it has half life in the title, considering how often valve games are delayed. where is team fortress 2 anyways?
if you do though, i would seriously consider unreal 3 mods, esp if your looking into this community. it should be much easier to mod and will be streamlined for artists to get their work ingame without the need of coding or scripting. Plus the polycounts and level of detail is great.
starting early isn’t a bad idea, but i have seen dozens of awsome mods start early on a game thats not out and die before the game sees the light of day
U3 FTW
I know very well posts like this, i think it´s job for free, you need to say more things, give links to webpages, show images, ect…
I see here poor information.
Well I deserve you good luck (but you need a better plannification to recruit people)
Good luck
Well the Mods Just starting but hitting off fast, We started yesterday and already have a mapper, Concept Artist, And Modeller. Today it would be nice to get alot more. Everyone knows this mod is gonna make it big. If you want to get a name for yourself in the Gaming industry this is the way to do it.
-Derek
I’m not surprised at all. I’m already working on getting model assets and stuff for Unreal Engine 3 Modding.
HL 2 took 6 years… wonder how long it will take for HL3
Hl2 wasnt in production since 1998 either. Hl3 is in production as we speak.
-Derek
ok, hl2 did take 6 years to develop. and i specifically remember an interview with doug lombardi where someone asked about hl3, and he said “whats hl3” or something to that degree.
mod an engine that is available. and if you have a mapper wanting to map a game that isn;t out, we’ll question his work ethic, cause mose mappers are wanting to map. If you asked me to model in maya 10, and maya 10 is a long way away, i ain’t waiting.
your thinking aftermath. i know its hard to hear sometimes, but hl3 ain’t comming any time soon, and it ain’t even being worked on i bet. With steam, and sin episodes comming out, valve will take the episodic route, using source, for the next 5 years. Mod for hl2 if your gonna do it, otherwise you’ll waste alot of peoples time waiting for a game for so many years
Valve already announced that there producing hl3 as we speak. Ive said that. Pc gamer said they been working on it for a few months now. Trust me i did my research hl3 should be out in the next year and a half. I already got a mapper mapping and a concept artist and a zbrush modeller on the team and everyone of them know that this mod is gonna make it big. So if you want to come join the team feel free to pm me or something.
Yeah those screenshots of HL3 are looking damn fine
I made quite a few maps for the Source engine and even won cash awards. But I gave up on it after I took a closer look at it and saw that I am only 20% productive and 80% searching for undocumented engine features, nonexistent support, faulty or simply wrong tutorials, and fighting unscheduled updates which change everything.
I de-installed the valve stuff and am waiting for the UT3 Engine to hit the market. THeir tools were always more mature and the documentation excellent as they use it inhouse as well. Also the performance of the netcode has always been superior to valve’s terrible multiplayer modes. Everyone who played one of the UT lazer mods knows that you could not possibly do that with source.
I’d use the talent you have to yur disposal and go for a cool mod with the UT engine. Once the new UT is out, the interest in Vavle’s stuff will dip rapidly till they come with new stuff and UT became old…
Check out the UT3 engine description. THAT is tasty stuff. Almost like Maya or XSI in realtime…
Cheers and good luck!

PS:
No thanks lemon we will go for hl3 for now. I know the halflife engines real well and nothing for modding in ut engine. So i think id be more productive if i did it in vavles source engine. So Whos interested in potentially joining the team?
heh, news mags/websites that mention 1 sentence announcements always like to make these types of statements because it gets readers hopes up. aftermath isnt released yet, and they got a side project in the works as well.
i really doubt that hl3 is even worked on. if they are then its just engine work and not assets, because their artists need to be working on the other projects that they are dedicated to at the moment. then again i dont work there, so i cant say for sure. ( though i can ask :D)
