Need some help with filling geometries

So this is an end-cap for a sword I’m working on. I used the extract function to create it, however, its hollow as a result. I would like to make it solid so that it can retopo easier. How would I go about doing this in zbrush?

Hi Theon.

If I’m understanding what you want and reading your mesh correctly, just set the “thickness” in the mesh extract menu to zero when creating your extract. This will create a single sided surface that has a logical “hole” at the handle that can then be easily closed with Tool > Geometry> Modify Topology> “Close Holes”. You may have to scale the subtool up a bit with gizmo since no thickness was added.

Likewise you could bypass the extract-- simply duplicate the sword subtool, using the mesh visibility shortcuts hide all but the polygons you want for the cap, delete hidden (Tool> Geometry> Modify Topology> Delete Hidden) and then close the resulting hole.

Once you’re comfortable with polygroups and hiding polygons, you could also probably hide the interior surface of your existing extract subtool by just shift-ctrl clicking on it. The two sides are probably separate polygroups (visible in Polyframe mode, shift+f). Once hidden, delete and close as above.

Let me know if that’s not what you’re after. Also, be sure to upgrade to the most recent version of Zbrush. It’s free for registered users.
