Need some help please with stl export/measurements.

A client had me sculpt him a helmet he intends to 3D print and wear. His head measurements are 6inchs W, 9inchs H, and 8inchs L. His crown is 23.5 inchs which I have no idea how to incorporate when exporting the file? My other question is, I assume if I were to type in the measurements of his head as they are then the helmet would likely not fit, so how much leeway should I give on the measurements?

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

To me there is no way to use these measurements in ZBrush. the only thing you can use is the bounding box measurements of your finished helmet, which will be the outside measurements. What you need to do is get a head shape with those measurements in another modelling ap that has actual dimensions, and then export that as OBJ. Import it in to ZBRush and then append your helmet to that new tool. Then size up your helmet so that it fits on the head shape.

That’s how I would go about it.

But I have to specify a size in the stl plugin export. Right now by default in the 3d print export the X,Y,Z are all set to 3.5 inchs. I already used the bound box method when making the mesh.

It can now export up to 50". Maybe you can work your way down from that?

But what about my questions? Can I set the mesh to his head measurements( 6inchs W, 9inchs H, and 8inchs L.) or do I need to increase the sizes a bit? Also when I split the model do the measurements update accordingly for each subtool?

When you set the size in STL, typically you only enter one dimension, it updates the rest base on the shape of the mesh. If you out un the dimension of his head, you’ll get a helmet that’s outside measurements are too small, as they will be what the inside measurements need to be. You need to import a shape that has dimensions from another package, and size your tool to that. And in my expereince no, if you cut the tool up, the dimensions your setting will be wrong. However, I’ve only ever did it with a single sub tool so that may be wrong.

Ok so I made a a head mesh using a box scale to his exact measurements and scaled/sized the helmet to fit it( comfortably I hope ). So now when I export using the 3d plugin exporter I don’t need to adjust anything?
