Need some help - modeling a sketch properly

Hi everyone,
I’m new to ZBrush and I’m trying to make a 3d model of a sketch I made. I’m having some trouble figuring out the best strategy to make a proper model in ZBrush and I’d like some workflow tips to improve my model.

Here’s the sketch:

Here’s my poor progress so far:

I’ve worked primarily with ZSketch and it’s been a struggle. I’d love some suggestions to improve my 3d model, I’d like to know how to get a more refined model matching my sketch. Proportions are not my main concern, I just want the overall quality of my model to make some justice to my sketch.

Thanks for your attention!

Not sure if and where they moved this thread to. More surprised nobody has said anything yet! So i’ll start (unless of course replies are in the new moved location.)

Realize that yes, you have a very complex sketch going on. To be honest for me its somewhat abstract, so comprehending what is going on is sort of a puzzle.
HOWEVER, what I do see and understand, I can make out as several different areas or parts and pieces. From your first model, it looks like you’re trying to carve everything out of once piece. Instead try creating parts as different subtools and then just adding them in piece by piece. When I look at your sketch I see 8 general areas to break down even further. I see a giant center piece. A Top with a design. I see two “Wheels” on the left and right. Two “Star Guys” on the left and right, and finally two “leaves” or “Bananas.” Instead of making your model out of one Zmesh, try making several subtools based on the areas I described.

Your progress isn’t as poor as you think. It shows some promise. You have a general idea of what you want and where you’re going. I think you need to call this “Version 1” and maybe its time to start a “Version 2” that builds on what you’ve learned. I think you’re also getting to learn the different modeling tools within Zbrush. So why not try lowering the “Z” strength of some of those tools?

One of the things that I love about Zbrush is the learning curve. We all go through it, some get it faster then others, but we all go through it, and as we progress we all get better and better.
